So, there was a lot of blue when we got in the house. We knew it was the house for us because it had a huge garden for me to grow awesome food in, a barn for the girls (all of them…Cutie and Ellie and the 13 chickens), a barn for woodworking (it was all for me but Jason decided he liked wood turning), a two car garage, a pool (Jason loves to swim), and the house was really nice.
Although we live here, it still didn’t feel like “ours” because it was the way the previous owners had it…the trees, the blue everything, and that nasty old lady carpet.
You thought I was exaggerating, didn’t you?
It is has been almost two years since we’ve been here. Well, the other day I got up and decided to look under the carpet near one of the vents in the front room. The previous owner said there was hardwood floors under the carpet…(ugh…long story) but I decided to look. (Key in the dramatic music)…Hardwood floors!!!! And they were really pretty. I had no plans so I made plans to pull up carpet that day. I pulled up the front room carpet and the bedroom carpet. I left the other two bedrooms alone until this project was complete (there were other reasons like we didn’t have enough room to empty them out considering one is my gym and the other is the office).
The bad thing…there were a few bad spots on the wood floors. So I did some research on spots on hardwood floors and I found that people were taking out stains with hydrogen peroxide. We went to Walmart and bought 2 things of it. I started spraying.
I was leary as to how this would work. But..
It is working. Slowly. And I can’t find any peroxide higher than 3%. I would like to find some 50% but…oh well.
It is working.
The bedroom floors looked fine.
I have decided that I am going to go ahead and re-finish the floors. I need some sort of sander…I was going to buy a belt sander and do it myself. I wasn’t in that big of a hurry except for a bed being delivered Monday. So, I do need to at least get the bedroom completed. I decided to go to Lowe’s and rent one of their random orbital sanders for the day. They are 39.00 a day. I will also have to buy the sanding discs which are around 6.50 a piece.
I am really excited to see that there is hardwood floor here. It is going to take some work but I can do this. This is the kind of thing that I live for. Nothing like a DIY project that I can show off to friends and family later on.
My next post will be about all the sanding info.
Until next time!
