Hello cozy firepit!
So, I saw this fire pit years ago and have wanted one since then. Well, it turns out that I married this guy who would absolutely do anything for me. I do not know why and I do not ask. He just does. He said he would try his hardest to build this for me and he did!
Now, let me first say, I am a Lowe’s girl. I love Lowe’s. I shop at Lowe’s on date nights. I walk through Lowe’s when I am bored. I love Lowe’s but they do not deliver. So, I had to resort to my not so favorite place to shop because they do deliver. Well, there is a reason I do not shop at this store. They are incompetent. Their employees are incompetent. Every time I have went into the place, they have screwed up. For instance, we went one time to rent a truck. We nicely stayed for the 2 hour duration because the truck wasn’t checked back in and so they had no record of it being in the parking lot although we parked right next to it. It was a mess. I love Lowe’s.
So, we called this “place” and put the order in for the 6×6’s. We also ordered nuts, bolts, screws, and cement because we assumed they would ship it all on the truck and make things easier. Nope. They complicated things by sending out separate packages (wasn’t even when I ordered). I had to call them, change orders and wait for the money to deposit in my account and reorder. They called to verify the address and told us that they would be delivering that Wednesday. Wednesday shows up, nothing. The net day, my husband calls them and the guy said they were loading up our load then and it would be shipping out soon. Waited all day. Nothing. My husband calls the next day and they say they can’t deliver because the payment hasn’t cleared which was a crock because it cleared on my account and this had already been almost a week. I cancelled the order. I then took my business to 84 Lumber where we were treated with kindness and even got a discount! They delivered my stuff with ease.
Now, we chose to put this up near the pool so we could simply get out of the pool and walk down the steps and be there near the fire. It actually worked out perfect. Jason and I debated on if we should cut the 6×6’s first and then drop them in the ground or drop them in the ground and then cut them. The ground has a slight slope….we called my amazingly smart cousin who has his own construction company. He said it would be wise to bury the posts first and then cut them. Well, it worked out perfect. We got the auger and it took all of about 20 minutes to dig the holes. Put the 6xt6’s in there and poured the concrete.
I was super excited.
By the way, I married a super genius. He may be a city boy, but he knows his way around power tools, measuring, and building stuff.
During this time, I was shopping for swings. I decided to go with ATGSTORES.COM for the swings. I am glad I did. They have cup holders that fold up when they aren’t being used and the price was super great. The prices start at 200 bucks and you work your way up to 447 a piece. I got the unfinished ones. We applied a finish ourselves. They are comfortable!
I got the fire pit on Ebay. I wanted something that had black on it and this was beautiful. I painted the 6x6s with black barn paint.
I honestly can say this is my favorite part of the yard with the exception of the garden. It is very relaxing to come out here, listen to the birds, watch the deer and the animals run around. During the summer, it was nice to hear the water flowing through the jets of the pool. It is nice to be able to have a place where friends can now gather and tell their stories, laugh, relax, and fellowship. I’m still debating about whether or not we need more swings. Until then, it is a nice place to hang out.
